Scholarships Sober Living Scholarships in Texas Kerrville

I knew that all it would take was one single moment of weakness, one split second, for me to call one of them up if I found myself craving a drink or drug. The idea that it would all be so readily available to me was too scary to fathom, so I knew that going to my parents’ house was suddenly no longer an option for me. It gave me time to become a part of the house I live in and develop a relationship and brotherhood with the others that live here with me. If you are unsure whether we will work with your sober living community, please contact Living Amends today. Sometimes, it’s necessary to make amends to employers or co-workers. Whatever the situation, there are a few ways to get started in the process of repairing wrongs with the people you most care about.

Unfortunately, we are unable to honor all applications with a scholarship.

I feel like I’ve actually built a sober family here in Texas, and it’s all thanks to Living Amends. I feel like I not only have a fighting chance at long-term sobriety but a good chance at long-term sobriety. I don’t take it for granted, and I will continue to pay it forward. I know your contribution will help a lot more than just me in the long run.

Trying to be sober with no rules, no guidance, and no help usually ends badly for us. Having the support of this scholarship to help me be able to stay in sober living has greatly increased my spiritual and emotional health. For the first time in my life I find myself inviting God into my daily life. I ask in the morning for God to help me stay sober today and guide me in my recovery. I use the serenity prayer several times a day and I thank God at the end of the day. Emotionally, I am able to not “take the bait” for arguments when my soon to be ex-husband is taunting me.

A living amend might include a posthumous promise to the deceased child to, from now on, make it a point to walk their surviving siblings to the bus stop each day. One of the greatest regrets some people endure is not apologizing to a loved one for past wrongs before they die. Many individuals know that they need to apologize to someone they love but fail to do so out of pride or ego. As a result, the opportunity is lost to make things right if that person dies before they can apologize.

Living Amends is a 501 (c) 3, a non-profit dedicated to supporting people who are working to achieve long term sobriety. We provide financial scholarships to those who are experiencing financial hardships during the first few months of sobriety. We select applicants who have made the initial financial and emotional investment into their sobriety through completing 30, 60, or 90-days in a residential substance abuse treatment facility. Living Amends provides financial support during the aftercare phase of recovery, otherwise known as extended care or sober living. I have made life long friends in this process and feel so blessed to feel “a part of” a community of like minded people I can count on and they can count on me as well.

  • By the grace of God, she allowed me to move into one of her homes with a scholarship that would waive the deposit and the entire first month’s rent.

During the first month, the applicant must fill out our form online. This, in combination with financial pressure and a death in my family, finally brought me to my knees. I was finally backed into a corner that I could find no way out of on my own, was forced to admit absolute and utter defeat, and was given the precious gift of spiritual desperation.

One of the most common reasons people want to make living amends is to correct past wrongs. Living amends bridges the gap between living in shame and regret and finding forgiveness. When applying for the scholarship for the second and third months, the applicant must fill out the form below and complete the 2nd and 3rd-month essay to Living Amends.

The Importance of Your Addiction Recovery Donations

I can now pay it forward just like many did for me and would like to sponsor/scholarship someone. I would like to thank Living Amends for the chance they gave me with the scholarship to sober living. In an attempt at self-knowledge to combat my spiritual malady, I pursued my undergraduate in Psychology and my Master’s in Counseling Psychology.

These changes in behavior help toward the goal of reestablishing relationships or making them stronger. However, these promises are usually the result of deep feelings of shame, guilt, and regret and may not be genuine for some. Many times, these kinds of promises serve to alleviate the wrongdoer’s guilt and so that they can say they apologized before their loved one died. With these kinds of promises, there may not be enough genuine intention of changing their hurtful patterns and behaviors. The goal is for each recipient to have a stake in their sobriety.

It’s hard to describe in words how homelessness effects people. My plans are to continue things I do daily that help me stay on the beam in my recovery. I have been meeting lots of people within the aa community and have a few promising job leads. I have also joined up with a group of musicians who get together before meetings and play music. It’s been a really great experience to do that sober, with other sober people! I know I cannot fix all of the issues that came as a direct result of my drinking but I have a short term plan to start making small financial/livings amends with help from my sponsor.

These scholarships are funded almost entirely by donations from people just like you. However, the scholarships also come from people who are also in recovery and attending a sober living facility. I really like the gym, so I applied, and I just got the email that I’m hired. We only give to individuals who are serious about their sobriety and have personally already invested in their long-term recovery by attending a residential treatment facility. Also, each recipient must agree to donate back 25% of the total awarded amount within a year’s time.

Don’t expect immediate forgiveness, and also, don’t pressure yourself to fix every broken relationship immediately. If you’re untrustworthy and unreliable, come to terms with those characteristics of yours. Figure out ways to improve upon them, and tell your loved ones what you’re working on living amends scholarship to help you improve.
